Crypto Co Counsel is on a mission to make crypto compliance simple. Their flagship product, Crystal, simplifies crypto legal research by instantly retrieving structured information from official sources, helping companies save on expensive consultations. The team needed a solution that could provide accurate answers and cite sources from a vast and ever-growing database of laws, case law, and regulatory guidance.

“In the crypto space, laws are constantly evolving, and compliance teams need to act fast. We needed a solution that could not only retrieve the right information but also cite it back to the source with precision,” said Joni Pirovich, Founder of Crypto Co Counsel.

The team initially spent two years building their own RAG pipeline using AWS, manual attempts at chunking and other tools before evaluating over eight RAG solutions, including Weaviate. However, these options either required extensive development time or lacked the ability to handle large, complex legal documents effectively.

Integration

Crypto Co Counsel chose Ragie’s RAG-as-a-Service platform to power Crystal’s legal research capabilities. The integration process was seamless, thanks to Ragie’s Google Drive connector for bulk document uploads and its ability to extract information from complex legal documents using hi-res mode, including those with diagrams and images.

“Ragie solved what we call the ‘hundred-page-plus document problem’—where other RAG systems struggled to chunk and retrieve data from large legal documents, Ragie excelled. This was a game-changer for us,” Joni explained.

‍The team also appreciated Ragie’s developer-friendly APIs and admin dashboard, which allowed them to integrate Ragie with their internal systems and maintain governance over their legal database.

Since integrating Ragie, Crypto Co Counsel has seen significant improvements in accuracy, speed, and user trust. Crystal’s ability to provide reliable citations has been a standout feature, enabling compliance teams to confidently navigate legal complexities.

“One of our first users is already using Crystal every day. Another has switched from general LLMs to Crystal for critical compliance research and drafting tasks because Crystal is purpose-built to navigate between complex crypto legal topics much faster than general purpose LLMs that still require heavy prompting.” Joni shared.
